CHAO PHRAYA RIVEr’S TRIPLE THREAT

If Bangkok is the heart of Thailand, then the Chao Phraya river is most definitely its river of life, transporting thousands of locals, tourists and goods along its meandering channel each day.

Today, the banks are lined with established residences and hotels, the murky waters forming an all-too-familiar sight. It may have seemed unlikely centuries ago, but  the Chao Phraya has slowly climbed to be the city’s pride and joy, commanding a highly desirable postal code.

Most recently, one of the remaining plots of land was acquired by Country Group Development (CGD) to build a trio of properties. Collectively called the Chao Phraya Estate, the L-shaped plot comprises three developments — Capella Hotel Bangkok, Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River and Four Seasons Private Residences Bangkok at Chao Phraya River. Construction of the trio has commenced, and will be completed in 2018.

While Capella makes its mark as Bangkok’s first all-suites waterfront hotel, playing host with 101 suites, Four Seasons Hotel promises a list of unrivaled amenities and facilities. They flank the 73-storey Seasons Private Residences that, while not the tallest in the vicinity, still promises to carve a new outline in the city’s skyline.

“We’re not aiming to build the tallest building in Bangkok," says Ben Taechaubol, CEO and director of CGD. “We could have easily built 100 storeys with our land and foundation, but what’s the point? We’d rather focus on the experience instead."

Indeed, experience is what CGD excels in. Renowned architect Gerry Jue of Bamo opted for a minimalist and modern theme for the apartment interiors at Four Seasons Private Residences. Warm, muted tones of cream and brown are used in the half-furnished apartments, while the living and sleeping areas are further defined through the use of textured walls in wooden laminates and plush velvet.

The apartments come in two- to five-bedroom formats, along with seven penthouses. Prices for the two-bedroom apartment average 35 million baht, while penthouses go for around 373 million baht. Each apartment comes with a 75-year lease, which can be renewed every 25 years. The tower has been designed in such a way that all 355 units are positioned at corners with river and/or city views. While the two-bedroom option is only available in a single-storey configuration, duplex layouts are available for apartments with three or more bedrooms.

The four-bedroom apartment spans across 14,0000 square feet (1,300sqm) and welcomes with an airy living area that faces the riverfront. Furniture is kept understated with sleek and modern lines, using complementing art pieces and carpets to break the monotony. Other social areas include the 10-seater dining table, an outdoor patio, and the library-and -entertainment room.

The kitchen, located behind the living area, remains bright and airy despite not having much direct sunlight. The all-white ensemble comprises a kitchen island, marble countertop with bar seats, and Gagganeau hobs.

All four bedrooms come with ensuite bathrooms and feature separate lounging and study areas, with mirrors and shelves placed strategically to maximise the use of overhead space. Out of the three smaller bedrooms, the junior suite has a larger built-in area, while the smallest can be converted into a cosy office.

Then comes the piece de resistance, the master bedroom. Easily occupying a good third of the entire apartment, the room is sectioned into three areas: an oversized bedroom with separate indoor and outdoor lounges, a generous walk-in wardrobe with ample space for a jewellery table, and a marble bathroom that allows you to enjoy the company of your partner. Think twin sinks, walk-through rain showers and an oversized tub that overlooks the river.

The residence also provides a multitude of entertainment options. Its three-storey rooftop Four Seasons Club comprises top-quality club facilities and amenities that include a wine room, golf simulator, cigar room, screening room, and city-facing infinity pool. At the amenities deck, families can unwind by a river-facing infinity pool, children’s pool, private cabanas, or whip up a storm in the multi-purpose function room that comes equipped with a kitchen and barbecue area. The deck also includes a state-of-the-art fitness centre with exercise studios. Dining options are scattered across three properties, and residents may also request for room services, and in-house spa treatments from Four Seasons Hotel.

To add to the riverfront experience, French Riviera-styled boats will be used to ferry residents to BTS stations, such as Saphan Taksin which is a three-minute ride away. For those with their own modes of transport, the Chan Road expressway can be reached in five minutes.
