Tod’s Fall/Winter 16 collection keeps us hooked

Tod’s Fall/Winter 16 collection

Interweaving past and present

Established in 1920 by Filippo Delta Valle — a humble cobbler who subsequently built an empire of luxury brands — Tod’s has been lending its sartorial touch to classic leather footwear. Combining its Italian heritage and craftsmanship with style from the 21st century, Tod’s Fall/Winter 16 collection combines practical design with relaxed masculine elegance seamlessly.

While the iconic Gommino design motif is featured throughout the collection as expected of it, this year saw it making an appearance on both men and women’s small leather goods, such as wallets and envelope bags. The Leo Clamp design, first introduced last season, makes yet another mark, having found itself on the Gimmino shoe, moccasins and loafers.

The collection plays on a base of muted tones and sparks of colours and textures. Take for example the biker jackets designed with a geometric patchwork technique, or the quintessential geometric pattern on knits and bags.

Not one to rest on its laurels, Tod’s has also been gaining an increasing presence in the women’s department. Creative director, Alessandra Facchinetti — who has since left the brand — reminded the fashion world that it is possible to craft a refined, all-leather collection from top to toe while keeping it classy.

While its footwear collection complements the ready-to-wear pieces, the standout of Tod’s Fall/Winter 16 collection is the Hook Boot, a heeled high-ankle boot available in brushed leathers or pony skin, complete with metallic hooks and intertwined coloured leather laces.
